The long-awaited Chandigarh Metro project is finally gaining momentum, and it’s set to transform how people move across Tricity—Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula. After years of back-and-forth, planning committees and feasibility studies, the metro is now officially back on track.
In Phase 1, the project will cover over 77 kilometers, connecting major hubs like New Chandigarh, Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh Airport, Zirakpur, Grain Market, Panchkula, and more. What’s especially impressive is that around 35 kilometers of this stretch will run through Chandigarh itself, including a portion that goes underground to preserve the city’s architectural character.
The Unified Metro Transport Authority (UMTA) has approved the first phase, and construction is likely to begin within a year. The project is expected to be partially operational by 2027, with full completion of Phase 1 projected by 2034. A second phase is also in the pipeline, which will extend the network further into Pinjore, Manakpur, and beyond.
For anyone following real estate in Chandigarh, this is a game-changer. The metro will significantly boost the value of properties near stations, reduce traffic congestion, and offer a modern, eco-friendly alternative for daily commuters.
If you’re a buyer, investor, or just a future-minded citizen, the Chandigarh Metro isn’t just a transport update—it’s a lifestyle upgrade.
